A chapter from the book "The American Women's Rights Movement: A Chronology of Events and Opportunities From 1600 to 2008" is presented. It focuses on the Susan B. Anthony Amendment which was passed by the House of Representatives on May 21, 1919 and by the U.S. Senate on June 4, 1919, 50 years after it was first proposed before a joint session of Congress. It was finally ratified on August 18, 1920 and the amendment took effect August 26, 1920, ending a 72-year battle for women's suffrage. |
