A chapter from the book "Food Sovereignty and Uncultivated Biodiversity in South Asia: Essays on the Poverty of Food Policy and the Wealth of the Social Landscape" is presented. This chapter explores the importance of uncultivated food sources in the survival strategies of the very poor living in the villages of Bangladesh. The major categories of uncultivated food sources are leafy greens, fish, fruit, roots and tubers, and secondary part of cultivated plants. It notes that poor families exchange these food sources to better-off ones for other products. |
