The article focuses on the study regarding the identification of skate nursery habitat including Alaska skate (Bathyraja parmifera), Bering skate (B. aleutica), and B. interrupta) in the eastern Bering Sea (EBS). It states that skate egg case composition, egg case densities, and predation on juvenile skates were examined in the study while initial locations of nursery sites based on the fisheries date and previous survey trawls were identified. It mentions that bottom trawl sampling methods were used in the study. It was revealed that one skate specie predominantly used the site for egg deposition while six skate species used the sites commonly. Moreover, bottom trawl survey results suggest that juvenile skates occupy habitats differently than nursery sites. |
