Abstrakt: The article focuses on the decline of social studies in the elementary school and a systemic approach for its banishment in colleges in the U.S. It highlights the issue regarding the teaching of social studies in relation to the enforcement of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act which requires states to mandate benchmarks in math and language arts and to make assessment in a state graduation qualifying examination.
