The article discusses the economic costs for cystic fibrosis (CF) carrier testing. It questions the obligation of the community to use government funds for a specific service that provide couples with reproductive choices. It suggests cascade screening of those with a family history as a more effective strategy. It further notes that technological capability together with cost-effectiveness and community acceptance should first be considered before public funded CF carrier screening is carried out. |
