The article discusses the physiological effects of altitude and cold weather and the strategies the military uses to counter the effects. It defines altitude, air temperature and cold weather as they cause fundamental physiological effects such as pulmonary ventilation, slow diffusion of oxygen inhibiting work capacity and overall mood and personality swings. To counter the responses and preserve the soldiers' health and combat power, mission planning is advised, as well as acclimatization, constant monitoring and initiating aerobic fitness adaptations. |
