The article reports on the strategy being taken by retail discount chains across the U.S. taking advantage of favorable retail rents in negotiating new leases while anticipating comparable store sales growth in 2010 amid the recession. Two discounters implementing such strategy are Family Dollar Stores Inc. and Dollar General. In Florida, retail rents are declining as vacancies rise. Weis Realty President Jamie W. Weiss, meanwhile, observed a shift in consumer spending habits towards discounters. |
