Abstrakt: The article discusses the internal oppositions that challenge the Carolingian royal authority during the middle years of Charlemagne's rule. These challenges were recorded by Einhard in his book about Charlemagne's life. The opposition in 785-786 involved a group of magnates in Eastern Francia and Thuringia, who rejected the royal policies and renounced their loyalty to the king. The uprising in 792 involved the participation of Charlemagne's oldest son, Pippin.
