Abstrakt: This article examines the core-periphery theory in relation to tourism development in Malindi, Kenya. It locates tourists' motivations, tourism-related employment opportunities and tourism industry's influence on commercial sex trade in a tourism destination's peripherization process. The study reveals that Malindi encapsulates challenges and dilemmas of peripherality of tourism destinations in the developing countries. Such dilemmas could be mitigated through strengthening local linkages in order to overcome the enclaving phenomenon of center-dominated tourism development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
