Abstrakt: PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of Le Fort I osteotomy in orthognathic surgery for patients with repaired cleft lip and palate. METHODS: Clinical data of patients with facial clefts treated by orthognathic surgery in the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery of Wuhan University from March 2004 to December 2006 were retrospectively reviewed. All patients received Le Fort I osteotomy procedure during orthognathic surgery. RESULTS: Data of 16 cases were collected, including 9 males and 7 females with an average age of 22.4 years. The preoperative SNA angle averaged 73.2 degrees, the postoperative SNA angle averaged 79.5 degrees. The distance of maxilla advancement averaged 8.13mm. The average follow-up period was 7.3 months. All patients had a better profile after operation and a satisfactory occlusion after orthodontic treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Le Fort I osteotomy combined with other orthognathic surgery proved to be an effective method for correction of maxillofacial deformities in patients with facial clefts.
