The article traces the development of the Standard Nuclear Material Containers (SNMC) which has been used by the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) plutonium facility to store radioactive and nuclear materials in the U.S. It examines the functionality of SNMC by comparing to a new generation interim storage container. It explains the issuance of Recommendation 94-1 due to the nuclear materials left following the termination of nuclear-weapons production activities in the country. |
