Abstrakt: The article discusses the results of an investigation on the endangered Persian leopard Panthera pardus saxicolor in Ghorkhod & Behkadeh Reserve at the Golestan National Park in northeastern Iran. Several leopard species were photo-captured during the survey and interviews with local people revealed 23 leopard observations across the area for the past 15 years. At least five leopards were estimated to have existed in the areas. Observations by local people indicated leopard hunting efforts and leopard attacks on domestic animals. The study also identified natural prey depletion and contradicting of habitats by rural areas as the principal problems of leopards in the reserve. It recommends as well the enforcement of protective measures against poaching and habitat fragmentation.
