There is no definite answer to the addressee of Gu Yanwu's Letters and Ten Years Departure. According to the author's textual research, the addressee was the loyalist Zhu Heling. They came from Suzhou, and joined "Jingyin" poets' society. Gu exerted profound influence in Zhu. After Gu's visit to the North, they wrote to each other at least three times to cultivate personality and communicate in academics.
