| Abstrakt: |
The author discusses several approaches to improve reading achievement of children in the U.S. He reflects on his experiences as president of the International Reading Association. He questions the effectiveness of an idea to spend much time during a school day on sustained silent reading (SSR). The idea that reading to children improves their reading achievement is also noted. Moreover, the author explains the need for a reading program such as Reading First to improve children's reading ability. |
