Abstrakt: | An essay is presented on "The War-Prayer," a short anti-war piece of Mark Twain. The author stresses that Twain's piece, which glances at the foibles of American tourists of religious bent, gets far more serious about similar spurious pieties that are found among his churchgoing compatriots. Moreover, he describes the work of Twain as a parable of the Philippine-American War, by which the U.S. crushed the armed struggle of Filipino people for independence. |
