Abstrakt: | An essay is presented on "The War-Prayer," a short anti-war piece of Mark Twain. The author stresses that Twain's opinions come out from that of a mysterious stranger, whose words convey their meaning to the reader, but ironically fall on stony ground with regard to the speaker's immediate audience. Moreover, she contends that Twain's use of irony as one of his key rhetorical devices becomes increasingly heavy-handed the older and the angrier he became. |
