This translation of an article written in German for the 'Dakota Freie Presse' in 1909 relates the story of the arrival and settlement of Russian-German immigrants in South Dakota between 1872 and 1909. The author emphasizes the religious aspects of the settlers, particularly the establishment of Lutheran congregations in the various settlements. Also discussed are problems which the settlers faced concerning agriculture, climate, economics, and education. |
