Abstrakt: Translates and discusses a detailed account of the Welsh settlements in South Dakota in 1891 presented by William D. Davies (1828-1900) in 'America, A Gweledigaethau Bywyd (America, and the politics of life),' published in Welsh by Joseph Williams in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, in 1897. Davies toured the Welsh settlements as a representative for 'Y Drych (The mirror),' a Welsh newspaper published in Utica, New York. The migration of Welsh into South Dakota reached its peak between 1870 and 1890 with most of them coming from Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota rather than directly from Wales. Primary sources; 2 illus., 3 photos, 17 notes.
