Abstrakt: The article focuses on the investigation pertaining to various instances in order for media can be held liable for intentional infliction of emotional distress (IIED) in the U.S. IIED has been considered as a newsgathering techniques used by mass media. It explores a historical background of IIED and the Constitutional provisions that is being used to safeguard journalists and guidelines to make them responsible for their action. It provides a discussion on the impact of Internet to the transformation on the journalism's role and consequences of publication considering the accessibility of information to journalists. Moreover, it provides an analysis on the public's reaction to the death of former District Attorney Louis Conradt wherein his death has been caused by IIED.
