Abstrakt: This article concerns the role of psychotherapy education programs as gatekeepers for the counseling profession. The authors report the reliability and validity of the Clinical Attributes for Therapists Scale (CATS), an instrument designed to assess the interpersonal skills of students in the Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) program at National University. The CATS showed high reliability and validity. Additional exploration of the CATS revealed that it adds new information beyond traditional measures of academic achievement (e.g., grades). The CATS can be used to make decisions about the advancement, remediation, or dismissal of students in psychotherapist training programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
