The article comments on the decision of Major General Gina Farrisee, acting deputy chief of personnel of the U.S. Army, to allow Captain Kamaljeet Singh Kalsi to wear a beard and turban while on active duty. According to Farrisee, she based her decision on individual circumstances and could be canceled. It stresses the need for the Army, if it allowed some service members freedom to observe their religions by waiving certain uniform regulations, to make waiver fair to all soldiers, regardless of ranks. |
