The article discusses the religious legacy and history of 10th century Byzantine Christian monk and poet Symeon the New Theologian, and Christian Orthodox monasticism. Topics discussed include the work "La Vita Symeonis," by 11th century monk and theologian Niceta Stethatos; the relationship between the work of Symeon and the writings of early Medieval Christian theologian Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite, and eulogistic poems written about Symeon the New Theologian by his contemporaries and the following generation. |
