Abstrakt: This paper will review four experimental studies related to targeted policing, specifically related to "crackdown" and "hot spots" policing. The main objectives of this paper are (1) to discuss the theoretical perspectives for implementation of targeted policing; (2) to describe a proactive crime prevention strategy; that is, to describe the implementation of targeted policing; (3) to assess the impact of programs that are based on targeted policing philosophy; that is, to answer the question: does targeted policing reduce crime; and (4) to determine if governments should continue implementing targeted policing programs. Thus, the overall agenda will be to assess whether targeted policing reduces crime, and based on the aggregate results of the four studies, to make appropriate recommendations for law enforcement agencies to allocate their resources to the most active crime-prone places. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
