Abstrakt: The article presents a study which offers information on an intensive multidisciplinary survey being carried out in the Indian Ocean sector of the Southern Ocean which aims to examine the hydrographic features and the productivity processes in the area. It mentions that among the factors that contribute to the constrained biological production in the region include stratification, lack of micronutrients and increased grazing pressure. It relates that the principal mechanism determining the different properties within the zones is the wind-induced transport that drives the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC).
