| Abstrakt: |
The article examines the archeology of the Achill Island from the Neolithic Age to the Great Famine. During the Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages, the island had dense forest and lush pastures along with a viable settlement but the effects of climate change and the growth of the bogs changed the landscape forever. Though little has been identified from the Medieval to the Iron Age, the 18th century was a period when the island was densely populated which remained high even after the Great famine but steadily declined until the 1970s. |
