The article presents a biography of British traditional singer Harry Cox. Born in 1885 at Barton Turf in Norfolk, England, Cox spent most of his life singing in pubs near his home in Sunnyside, on the parish borders of Catfield and Potter Heigham. First discovered by composer E.J. Moeran in 1921, Cox made recordings for the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) in 1934, as well as for Alan Lomax and Peter Kennedy. He received the EFDSS Gold Badge in 1970, one year before his death. |
