The article presents an application to set aside all type fixation for a species of extinct vole Villanyia exilis, under Article 75.6 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. The Villanyia exilis genus and species were described from the Pleistocene of Hungary as very small sized species that combine the characters of Mimomys and Prometheomys. The specimen designated as lectotype is said to belong to Dolomys kretzoii from the Pleistocene of Kadzielnia, Poland. The application proposes lectotype and paralectotype as demonstrably belonging to two different taxa. It aims to conserve the usage of Villanyia exilis. |
