The article discusses the issue concerning the books given by the German government of Adolf Hitler to the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado during the 1930s. It recalls that the next day after the formal presentation of the books in the university, "Rocky Mountain News" reported that the university accepted Hitler's propagandistic works which consisted a German art and another dealing with contemporary political development from a Nazi viewpoint. This headline is said to be different from the initial report of "Denver Clarion" wherein the librarian Joseph Hare emphasized that the collection is comprised of classics of German literature. The author reflects on the issues of credibility in the contemporary press coverage and the question of academic freedom. |
