The article offers information on the members of the Jewish community in the U.S. who served in California organizations during the Civil War. The list of names were derived from Simon Wolf's "The American Jew As Patriot, Soldier, and Citizen." After comparing with records in the National Archives, the author noted that three names were not in the records including Isadore Simon, Jacob W. Toklas and J. B. Heubsman. Based on the U.S. Veterans Administration records, pension files were included for Hulda Stern Simon, Isadore Simon alias Theodore Simons and Charles Hoffman also known as Charles Hubschman and John B. Huebschman. Toklas also applied for pension on August 24, 1897 but was rejected. |
