Abstrakt: A chapter from the book "Fresh Reflections on Samuel Johnson: Essays in Criticism" is presented. The chapter examines the influence of Thomas Pennant's accounts of Scottish tours on Samuel Johnson's "A Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland." It cites an argument made by Ralph E. Jenkins about the issue in a 1972 number of "Texas Studies in Language and Literature." Also discussed are the letters from and to Johnson and another author James Boswell which provide an account of how Johnson's book was published.
