Transfer of digital content across multiple computers over a network typically happen using remote file transfer products. One such widely used product is FTP (File Transfer Protocol). FTP is also widely used with SSL (Secured Sockets Layer) to achieve security/confidentiality of the file being transferred over the wire. But, file transfers using FTP over SSL are time consuming computer intensive operations in both the client and the server. When the files to be transferred are large in size, the delay incurred in file transfers proportionately increases causing a dip in file transfer performance. This paper discusses solutions that attempts to eliminate additional iterations of security (SSL encryption/decryption of data) and still achieve a secured data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
