Residents of the state might feel the pinch of price rise in the coming days with the state budget announcing a hike in electricity duty (ED) and VAT besides rise in fuel prices. Affected by the hike in VAT and ED, various associations of industries have decided to raise their voice against the Congress government's decision for the first time. They have called a bandh till 2pm on Monday to protest against the hikes. VAT committee chairman, Om Prakash Khandelwal said, "Rise in VAT, fuel and electricity rates are going to affect the production cost, which is exerting extra pressure on industries at a time when we are already reeling under the pressure of global recession."
