Abstrakt: The article discusses a numerical and experimental analysis of catenary riser dynamics and riser-induced-damping phenomenon. It explains the use of finite differences numerical scheme to solve the complete nonlinear system of dynamic equilibrium in the time domain. The energy dissipated per cycle and linearized damping coefficients demonstrated differences in the experimental data and numerical calculations. Also noted is the increase in energy dissipation for rising excitation amplitudes.
