Abstrakt: This investigation studied secondary mathematics teachers' understanding of performance-based tasks with respect to the contextual design of tasks that promote urban students engagement in and pursuit of learning mathematics. The findings showed after engagement in an intensive institute, teacher-designed tasks remained inconsistent with characteristics of tasks that are culturally relevant and require high cognitive demand for urban learners ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
