The article focuses on the conception that some French intellectuals had concerning the historical profession in the first half of the 17th century. Particular focus is given to the work of historian Scipion Dupleix and the way he criticized other historians and was criticized by them, including Marshal François de Bassompierre, polemist Aristarque, and Philotime, a defender of Scipion. The books "L'Histoire de Henry le Grand, quatrième du nom, roy de France et de Navarre," and "L'Histoire de Louis le Juste, treizième du nom, roy de France et de Navarre," by Scipion Dupleix, are examined. |
