A biography is presented of workshop historian Michael Zimmermann, a longtime leftist contributor to this periodical in its two incarnations. Zimmermann's education is sketched, as well as his Catholic upbringing and later membership in the German Communist Party (DKP). His first major project involved "Life History and Social Culture in the Ruhr Region," through which he became affiliated with this publication and undertook similar labor history projects, developing a methodology of "history from below." |
