This article examines the assumption of writers and artist that scientific method should be adopted in fiction and art. It notes that romanticist Emile Zola was the advocate of this theory and claimed that experiment is at the bottom only intentional observation which should be imitated by artists and novelists. Zola also explains that experimental method in literature and science can be a useful tool in determining phenomena natural, individual and social in which metaphysics only gives irrational and supernatural definitions. |
