The article discusses the excavation of a ceremonial room by a team from the University of New Mexico at the Pottery Mound archaeological site in New Mexico. The room appeared to have been abandoned and was filled with sand and trash. It also contained a rectangular pit as well as a shelf and a bench made from adobe. Artifacts discovered in the room included projectile points, a stone pendant, awls, a polishing stone and a scraper. The room is compared to ceremonial rooms discovered in other pueblos. The use of rooms by Pueblo Indians for ceremonies is discussed. |
