Abstrakt: The article profiles Harvey Milk. It states that Milk was the first openly gay elected official in California when he was appointed to the Board of Permit Appeals. He fought for women's rights, authored Gay rights Ordinance in San Francisco and improved public transit. His death with George Moscone after an assassination on November 27, 1978 led to a gathering of 40,000 San Franciscans in a candlelight march.
