The article discusses the history of the Jewish Bakery Industry in Los Angeles, California, from 1849 to 1926, as reported by Herman Robbins, founder of the trade publication "The Jewish Merchant" and editor and publisher of "Hebrew Food Journal." Robbins explores the growth of the industry due to the emergence of Jewish-operated bakeries including the Cooperative Bakery, Union Made Bakery and White Palace. He focuses on the creation of the Bakery Union and its impact on the Hebrew Master Bakers Association. An overview of the Jewish bakers' strike in 1926 is also provided. |
