Abstrakt: This article reports on masculinity and gender in space flight and the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The article discusses popular depictions of astronauts in history, the media, and popular culture, noting the reinforcement of gender identities in them. These masculine and feminine roles are reinforced by film depictions of space flight in movies such as "The Right Stuff" and "Apollo 13." Information is also provided on astronauts' wives, family issues, and sex roles, as well as astronauts such as James Lovell and John Glenn.
