The article looks at the professionalization of coaching in Canada. In 2000, the Coaching Working Group and the Advisory Committee to then Secretary of State Denis Coderre were created to address issues raised by the Canadian Sport Policy. The six criteria used to define physical education as a profession are intellectual cooperation, knowledge of disciplines, practicality, self-organization, communication and public service. Credential, mentorships, study programs, examinations and field assessments were used to determine competence in coaching. |
