The article focuses on the role played by U.S. Navy sailors of the destroyer Bainbridge in a rescue operation for the cargo ship Maersk Alabama hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean in April 2009. The sailors are said to have kept Captain Richard Phillips alive until his captors could be killed. They were also able to bring two U.S.-flagged ships into safe harbor. The operation started with a telephone call from the combat information center received by Ensign Aaron Wishart, followed by the gathering of 18 sailors by Ensign Steven Rho. |
