Abstrakt: Chapter 7 of the book "Power and Voice in Research With Children," edited by Lourdes Diaz Soto and Beth Blue Swadener is presented. It examines how Chinese immigrant girls adapted to the school system in the U.S. The girls revealed that they wanted to be recognized and respected by their teachers and peers. It is concluded that narrative inquiry enabled the girls to learn to exercise agency by speaking out about their experience as newcomers.
