Abstrakt: The article defines the idea of radical puppetry to mean creation and use of puppets whose characters generate discussion of the status quo and stimulate imagination of alternatives. The author discusses construction of giant puppets as a way to reach haptic learners, those who learn by tactile means, students who are shy or withdrawn or who have trouble speaking, and as a general means of self-expression for teens. It states that puppetry can be used to address situations in children's lives in a social or political way. A teaching model is provided, including selecting a topic, brainstorming associations, formulating questions for inquiry and designing and implementing activities. The medium combines the arts of showmanship, artistic creation, self-expression and marketing.
