The article reports on the participation of physical therapy (PT) students Sally Bobula, Ed Rothbauer, Rebecca Stocker, and Rachel Wise along with faculty in a first-time service-learning project in Punta Gorda, Belize in January 2009. The project was offered by the University of Wisconsin-Madison as part of PT 600, a service learning course which requires students to work with community partners. The article outlines the goals of PT 600 and the Belize project and offers an overview of the activities in Belize in which the students worked, including training for caregivers of people with disabilities, home visits to physical thearpy patients, and disability awareness education. |
