The article focuses on the advantages and limitations on the use of automatic identification systems (AIS). The installation of the AIS transreceiver with the used of very high frequency (VHF) can transmit the course and speed, and can send out the non-navigational information of the ship. However, the use of the AIS will depend upon the weight of the ship. The user of the Class A and Class B AIS units must know its limitation based on the AIS regulation because of the limitations of each. |
