Abstrakt: The author shares his personal memories of a group of young men called the Portsmouth Group (PG) who banded together during the 1940s to study and document the birds of a single area. He presents an account of his introduction to Langstone Harbour and Farlington Marshes in England in November 1954 when he was only 14-year-old. He also praises the PG as an example of how much can be achieved when common interest and purpose brings together a group of birdwatchers from widely different backgrounds.
