Abstrakt: The article discusses the primary role of trees in maintaining productivity at dairy farms in New Zealand. According to the author, effective heat management is essential for dairy farms. When exposed to heat of high risk, the best way to reduce health loading is the provision of shade from trees. Cattle will choose tree shades over artificial shade. Trees are effective at blocking radiant heat as it is believed that evaporative heat loss from leaves cool the air around them. The most useful of them are deciduous trees because they lessen the effect of pasture shading and root competition on pasture production.
