Abstrakt: The article discusses the history of coal mining in England. According to the author, coal was an important source of energy in the development of the country's industry from 1700. In the Middle Ages, the two main coalfields were those in the areas of Northumberland and Bristol, from which the coal could be moved easily by sea. Moreover, the closure of various previously viable mines in the preparation for the privatisation of the coal industry has been seen in early 1990s.
